Friday 18 October 2013 – Term 4 Week 1
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora tatou katoa, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Bula vi naka, Kia orana Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Namaste, Nihao, greetings to you all.
Welcome to all our new students and families at Elm Park School. It is hard to believe we have only 9 weeks until the end of the Term. We would also like to welcome our new teacher, Tearani Cooper in Room 6, with a new class of Year 0 children for this term. We also have a number of Trainee teachers in our school working with our teachers and students.
ERO VISIT - We have three members of ERO (Education Review Office) that will be visiting our school in Week 4. We will welcome them with a Powhiri at 12.30 pm on Monday 4 November in our Auditorium.
TALENT QUEST - Our annual Talent Quest will be happening on October 31 in the Auditorium. The stage is set and ready to go. Elm Park certainly has a lot of talented children wanting to perform. There will be a matinee session as well as the evening session (details to come).
INQUIRY SHOW CASE - Staff will be setting up our Inquiry Learning Showcase in the Auditorium in Week 4 for parents, family and whanau to view all the hard work that the students and staff have been doing around our Inquiry topic “Enterprise”. We look forward to seeing you all there.
CHOIR PERFORMANCE - Our school choir performance will be held at the Town Hall on Wednesday 6 November.
STUDENT LED CONFERENCES - These will be held in your child’s classroom on Wednesday, November 13 (Years 4-6) and Thursday, November 14 (Years 1-3) from 3.30 pm – 8.00 pm
BOOK FAIR - There will be a Book Fair held in the Library at the same time as our Student Led Conferences.
GARAGE SALE - We will be holding the Garage Sale on Saturday 23 November in the Auditorium starting at 8.00 am.
CELEBRATION CONCERT - This will be held on 29 November in our Auditorium, starting with Years 1 & 2 at 6.00 pm, Years 3 & 4 at 6.30 pm and finally Years 5 & 6 at 7.00pm.
As you can see the Term is already bursting with events.
We look forward to our continued partnership between Home and School to support your children and their learning journey.

LOOKING AHEAD
CHILD RESTRAINT LAWS - Information is now available regarding changes to child restraint laws that are coming in to force on 1 November. At that time, the mandatory use of child restraints in vehicles will be extended by two years, with all children required to be correctly secured in an approved restraint (this includes booster seats) until their seventh birthday. Children aged seven will continue to be required to be secured in an approved child restraint if one is available in the vehicle, and if not, in any child restraint or safety belt that is available. These changes will help reduce preventable deaths and serious injuries to children travelling in vehicles. More information is also available at www.nzta.govt.nz/childrestraints

ANZ BANKING – A reminder that there is ANZ
banking with Mrs Kerr and the ANZ school bank
tellers. The school bank is open on Wednesday
mornings, before school in the Library.
Where ever possible we encourage parents to park away
from the school!!

PARENTS DROPPING OFF CHILDREN - There is still a considerable element of unsafe
behaviour occurring when parents are dropping children off and picking children
up from school.
Please note that:
·
Children are to exit vehicles on the footpath side of the car NOT the
road side of the car.
· Parents must park legally - NOT on the footpath, NOT over people's
driveways, NOT in no stopping areas (broken yellow lines and clearways are no
stopping areas.)
Focus on Children
Room 7 is
learning about enterprise. We know that enterprise means to keep trying and persevering.
We also know how important it is to have healthy food so we decided to create a
garden where we have more healthy food for us to eat at school. Here are some
