Welcome
back everyone to Term 3 2013. We are back into the swing of school and everyone
seems to be rested and relaxed. We have lots of exciting activities planned for
this term, Dance Festivals, Maths Week, Speech competitions.
This
week we have 20 students arriving from Shinan County in Korea and they will be
integrated into our classroom programmes. We are also expecting a large group
of International students from Hoshino Gakuen in Japan for a day, which is an
on-going programme for the past 2 years.
Many
of our classes are planning trips this term. Please ensure that you have paid
the activity and resource payment so that your children are able to attend the activities
as it is an essential part of the curriculum and related to the Inquiry Unit
“Enterprise” that the children are studying this term.
If
you have any concerns related to your child’s learning journey please contact
the class teacher and make an appointment to discuss any issues so that these
can be addressed.

Banking - A
reminder that ANZ banking happens each Wednesday in the library from 8:20 am.
New customers can open an account in the Pakuranga Branch and then bring their
money in for banking each week. Contact Mrs Kerr in Room 1 for more details. ASB deposit envelopes can be deposited on any
day in the elephant box in the office.
Road Patrol – We urgently require a volunteer for our road patrol on Tuesday and / or Thursday afternoons. If you can spare a little time we would greatly appreciate it. Please contact Catherine Holdom in Rm 9.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - We
have just welcomed 21 students from Shinan County in Korea. They will be
with us for four weeks. This is the sixth successive year that Elm Park
School has hosted a group from Shinan!
Thank you to our homestay parents, students and
teachers for helping to make their experience in New Zealand so special.
Room 5 – We have
been using Wordfoto, an app on our
iPads to turn pictures into a mosaic of describing words. Here are some of our
gingerbread men cookie mosaics! We took pictures of our cookies with our iPads,
then used Wordfoto to type words to describe our cookies.
Focus on Children
Room 4 Pastel Self Portraits and Kid Pix T-shirt designs.
After completing their self-portraits
in pastel the students in Room 4 designed their own t-shirts on Kid Pix. They
had to create a pattern using images, which would tell us something about them
and what they liked. They also learnt how to type their name and use the shift
key to type a capital letter for the beginning letter in their name. Do come in
to visit our class to see the other self-portraits and t-shirt designs.

social worker and psychologist with a PhD, Wendy is well-known and respected
for her writing and seminars based on her research and her own personal
experiences as a person with autism. Wendy has written 11 books varying from
her autobiography to an everyday text on autism, and children’s story books.
Her strong personality and sense of humour make her seminars hugely popular throughout
