Happy Easter everyone.
I hope you all have some family time and get a chance to relax and enjoy
the good weather that we are still having. A reminder that we return to school
on Wednesday 3 April as the Educational Act states that schools must be closed
the Tuesday following Easter.
We finally announced our school councillors
yesterday. Congratulations to those
children who were successful. Well done to all children who put themselves
forward for this position. We were very impressed with your speeches this year,
well thought out, constructive and well delivered.

Looking Ahead
Headstart is a pre-school programme for four year olds who may
or may not be attending Elm Park School. The purpose of this programme is to
familiarise children with the school learning environment. This programme runs
during term time on Wednesdays at 1.30 pm. This is run by Mrs Pauline Grainger.

Elm Park School - Board of Trustees Election
Nominations are invited
for the election of 5 parent representatives to the board of trustees. A
nomination form and a notice calling for nominations will be posted to all
eligible voters. Additional nomination forms can be obtained from the school
office. Nominations close at noon on 16 May 2013, which is 14 days before the
election date and may be accompanied by a signed candidate’s statement. The
voting roll will be open for inspection at the school and can be viewed during
normal school hours. There will also be a list of candidates’ names, as they
come to hand, for inspection at the school. Voting closes at noon on 30 May
2013.

STANDING FOR RE-ELECTION –
Over the next few weeks we will present current Board Member’s candidate
statements for re-election: Charlise Carotenuto I have enjoyed the wonderful
experience and challenge of being part of the Elm Park School (EPS) Board of
Trustees for the past 5 years. I am
passionate about ensuring we continue to give all students at EPS the
opportunity to achieve their personal best. We have so many students at EPS
with diverse backgrounds and cultures, as well as many migrant families in our
community. I can personally relate to this, being a migrant myself, and
understand the challenges migrant families face. Having been in New Zealand for more than 9
years I have the benefit of local knowledge as well as migrant experience, and
feel it is important to support our students at EPS to integrate well into our
school community. If we can provide the
students and their parents with a variety of opportunities I believe this will
assist them in making the best choices for their development. I am committed to
helping the Management Team at EPS:

Manage the school in an open and honest
manner;
·
Use the finances available in ways to
gain best advantaged for our children;
·
Connect our school to the families so
parent input is valued;
· Celebrate EPS’ diverse community so
our young people can benefit from growing and learning together; and
·
Ensure our children get the highest
quality of education possible in a safe environment.
I am a working mum and my skills come as much from raising a family as
from my education and professional background.
Standing for re-election to the BOT is a great way to stay involved in
the community and I would welcome the opportunity to continue to represent the
parent body on the new Board of Trustees should I be re-elected.
Focus on Children
In Room 23 we are learning to structure a Cinquain Poem correctly. We focused on 3 simple rules.

Cinquains
are five lines long.
·
They
have 2 syllables in the first line, 4 in the second, 6 in the third, 8 in the
fourth line, and just 2 in
the last line.
·
Cinquains
do not need to rhyme, but you can include rhymes if you want to.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
YUMMY APPLE
STICKERS - "Don't forget that we are still collecting
Yummy Apple Stickers. These stickers can be found on marked fruit at our
local supermarkets. At the end of every year we send in all the stickers
we've collected and in return we get FREE sports gear. Each class has
their own chart to fill so please send them along."
Learn to Ice Skate or Play Ice Hockey these School
Holidays or Next Term! Auckland needs new young Ice Hockey Players &
Figure Skaters. Enjoy the exhilaration of these ice-sports. Learn to
skate the easy way with Paradice instructors. Classes for beginner to advanced
skaters from 6 years+, we teach the national skate school programme "Kiwi
Skate" with a total of 12 levels. HOLIDAY
PROGRAMME 9am-10am Instruction, 10am-12noon supervised public session
skate. Week 1: Learn to Ice Skate
Monday 22 April–Friday 26 April Week 2: Learn to Ice Skate 29 April – Friday 3
May Pay 7 days in advance and receive a $5 discount. Term classes are
available on Tuesday & Wednesday at 4pm, Saturdays 9am & Sundays 10.45am

For 2013, Fencibles main training facility is being converted to Astro Turf
with 5 Junior and 1 full size pitches. This will mean that training will be
undertaken on fields that will not be subject to weather related closure.
