From The Principal

This term is rushing by, we are already into Week 5.
Just a friendly reminder that our school will be closed on Monday 6 June for Queen’s birthday weekend holiday.
Our classes have been very busy with their Inquiry unit, sports games, cake stalls, sausage sizzles for fundraising and classroom activities. Thanks for all your support with supplying the yummy cakes for a very successful cake stall on Friday. There were a lot of children with happy faces coming from the hall with little cup cakes in their hands. All proceeds will be going towards the Year 6 Camp for this year and next.
Many thanks to the PTA for their efforts with the Discos for the children last Friday. Our children are very lucky to have so many parents who support the school in our efforts to provide the best possible learning environment for them.
Our Enrichment programmes are filling our Fridays with so many wonderful opportunities for our children. All of these opportunities are possible because you pay your parent contribution which enables the school to provide such a wide variety of activities to extend your children’s learning experiences.
The following teachers are released from their classrooms to work with students.
· Mrs Keryn Scott works with our Art students on Thursday and Friday in the old dental clinic.
· Mrs Taljaard takes students for music, choir, recorder, drumbeat and ukelele at the back of the auditorium.
· Mrs Meikle is working with our Eco Agents on caring for our environment.
· Mr Fitzgerald works with our students for Physical education (PE).
· Miss Johnston is working with Digikid students for ICT.
· Mr Woolford is working with our mathematicians at Stage 7 & 8.
· Mrs Koroa, Mrs Howard and Mrs Melville are working with a wide range of students for Maori enrichment and kapa haka .
Welcome back to Mr Armstrong who has returned from a well deserved break and is back manning the gate in the mornings and afternoons.

BOT News
The BOT are in the process of updating the school strategy for the next five years. Should you wish to have input, please contact Karl Crawford via email Karl.Crawford@plantandfood.co.nz or advise Mrs Herriott at the school office. When the draft is complete, it will be open for comments and suggestions from the school community before finalisation.
DANGER - It is of great concern that many cars have been seen speeding through the orange light and even the red light at the crossing on Gossamer Drive. Please help us to ensure the safety of our children coming to and from school by slowing down and stopping when required at the crossing. Also could you please observe the parking restrictions and not park on the bus stop, yellow lines or in the driveways even just to drop off a child.

WOW! What is WOW? - WOW stands for Walking/Wheeling on Weekdays. It’s all about walking or wheeling (cycle, scooter or skate) to school on a regular basis. It is easy to take part in WOW, you might be doing it already! Register for WOW and receive your start up pack. This includes: a walking / wheeling calendar, a bag tag and a mystery gift. The Water Care Lady
After lunch on Thursday Sally, the Water Care lady came to talk to us about water. She talked to us about all sorts of things to do with waste water. We learnt about where water goes once we have used it, how it is cleaned, and the bacteria and bugs that live in water. Here are some important messages and information we learnt from Sally at Water Care:
DO NOT put paint down the storm water drain – fish cannot see its food if paint is in the water. It kills fish. By Reece
Super bugs suck up water that has been used. Some super bugs are good and some are bad. By Reece

There are pipes under our house that have different names. There was a sewerage pipe, water pipe, and waste water pipe. By Anna

Kelly Sports Winter Ball Blitz Program at Elm Park Primary School - Kelly Sports is again offering an after school sports programme at Elm Park primary on Tuesday's from 3.10pm – 4.10pm in the 2nd Term. The Winter Ball Blitz program is a wonderful opportunity for your child to develop key sporting skills and inspire them to give sport a go.

We are looking for support - We will shortly be having a new issue of our school’s newsletters printed. The newsletters will be used throughout the year to keep our families and school community informed regarding school activities.
